A Team Canada hockey jersey, autographed by Wayne Gretzky, was framed in this shadow box. Framing this jersey presented more of a challenge since the customer wanted to display the Team Canada emblem and player number on one shoulder, while displaying the Pepsi logo on the other shoulder. As well, the neckline of the jersey was quite out of shape and the stretchy fabric was not conducive to having the jersey lay flat. A lot of creative folding and hand stitching had to be done to make a presentation look as good as possible. Even so, there was a lot of bulk in the sleeve areas which could not be flattened out.
A black top mat with a narrow gold bottom mat were chosen to surround the jersey and a matching black mat was used as the background on which the jersey was mounted. The gold mat was chosen to mimic the gold stitching line that surrounds the Team Canada logo on the front of the jersey.
In order to provide the necessary depth for the shadow box, an extension box frame was built using the same moulding as the face frame (just cut with the moulding positioned on its side rather than back) and then stacked together with the face frame. Tru Vue Conservation Clear glass was chosen as the glazing to provide 99% UV protection for the contents of the frame.
