My customer was so happy with how his autographed Wayne Gretzky hockey jersey shadow box turned out last year (2017) that he brought his autographed Sidney Crosby hockey jersey (Pittsburgh Penguins) to me to frame this year. What better way to spend his birthday money, he told me!
He wanted the design to match his existing shadow box, a simple, yet classic design... The frame was built from a black shadow box moulding from Larson-Juhl’s Confetti line. The mats were conservation mats from Peterboro Matboard and Tru Vue’s conservation clear glass was chosen for its 99% UV protection.
This jersey had a fight strap, so a slit was cut into the 4-ply matboard form that I have inserted in the body of the jersey and the loose part of the strap was fed in behind the form. This makes a smoother appearance. Also, the sleeves were different lengths, but with some adjustments when sewing them down, I was able to make them appear fairly even.
An interesting tidbit... When my customer met Sidney Crosby and asked him to autograph his jersey, he found out that when Sidney signs his number “87”, he will only sign the number “7” and not the “8”.
