I was contacted by a lady from Ohio, U.S.A., who would be coming to town to visit her daughter and family. She had purchased a 24”x36” poster of hand-drawn hockey jerseys from the NHL, minor hockey and Olympic teams and wanted to have it framed as a gift for her two grandsons who both love hockey and recently had their bedroom made-over.
The poster was drymounted to gatorboard which provided a lightweight, yet firm, substrate and it was also laminated so glazing was not necessary.
At my suggestion, my customer wrote a lovely note to her grandsons which was placed on the back of the frame.
A classic black bevel moulding from Larson-Juhl’s Brooklyn collection was paired with one of their frame enhancers, which was hand-painted a bright orange colour. The orange was chosen to compliment the orange in many of the jerseys on the poster. And, when the customer’s son-in-law came to pick up the frame, I learned that black and orange were the official colours of the NHL logo for many years (1946-2004), so it was quite fitting that the frame design consisted of those two colours.
