An art project done by my customer's son which she wanted framed in a shadow box... an octopus made from a Plaster of Paris cast of the child's hands.
The child's name and the date that the artwork was made were printed onto the top mat in pencil.
The octopus was mounted with strips of white tulle, which provided a soft support. The octopus was quite fragile and some of the 'tentacles' were loose, so with the customer's permission, small strips of 1 ply museum paper were glued to the back of the octopus in places that needed better stability.
The necessary depth for the shadow box was made by making a face frame and extension box from the same moulding except turning the moulding on its side when cutting the extension box.
