A new, out of town, customer came to me to frame her autographed Carey Price goalie jersey. Her brother had given her the jersey as a gift as he knew she was a huge Montreal Canadiens fan, even though he preferred the Toronto Maple Leafs! She saw examples of my jersey framing on the Internet and liked what she saw. I was honoured that she chose me to frame her jersey – it was a 300 km round trip from her home to my framing studio, which she did twice – once for the design consultation and the other to pick up the shadow box.
Jerseys can be a challenge to frame at the best of times. This one was actually fairly straight and even, but since it was a goalie jersey, it was quite large. To fit it in a 32”x40” shadow box, some creative folding had to be done. I was also able to line up the stripes on the sleeves with the stripes on the main body of the jersey.
The narrow and wide flat profiles from Framerica’s Black Executive Leather collection were combined to create a shadow box deep enough for displaying the jersey. The blue mat was chosen from Nielsen Bainbridge’s Artcare line and Tru Vue’s conservation clear glass was chosen for its 99% UV protection.
My customer was thrilled with how it turned out and commented that it was even better than she had imagined it – I couldn’t have asked for a better reaction!
